Installation, Beijing, 2011

Beijing has a lot of indoor markets that sell small cheap products. Some merchants are specialized in making bedcovers. The walls of their booths are covered by photo examples of the different choices in textiles they sell. These photos display a perfect world of cosy bedrooms with soft beds and multiple pillows. I found these images in stark contrast with the way the average Chinese citizen lives and that was also the case with my own dwellings while in Beijing.
Instead of trying to recreate the illusionary world displayed by the images, I decided to transform my (children's) bedroom into one of the indoor market booths specialized in bedcover textiles.
